The Hannes Reeh Winery in Andau

At the Hannes Reeh winery in Andau, sun-drenched vineyards and barren gravel soils meet a clear philosophy: wine should have character without being complicated.

If you have only ever come across Hannes Reeh on a shelf or in your glass, a visit to Andau lets you discover what goes on behind the bottle: with a wine tasting, an UNPLUGGED winery tour, regional food or an event at our winery. You don’t need to know anything about wine before you arrive. Curiosity is enough.

Visit the Hannes Reeh Winery

Arrive, look around and taste: a visit to Hannes Reeh brings you closer to wine without turning it into a science. Explore our spacious garden, wine cellars and winery shop, where you can discover the range, ask questions and take your favourites home with you.

Choose between a wine tasting – also available spontaneously for small groups during opening hours – and our UNPLUGGED winery tour. We are also happy to add a selection of regional food to your visit. That makes the winery just as suitable for a quick stop as it is for a relaxed afternoon in Andau.

Small groups can also drop in during opening hours without booking in advance.
Larger groups are kindly asked to book ahead.

UNPLUGGED
Winery Tour

The UNPLUGGED winery tour shows you what happens between vineyard and bottle. After a sparkling aperitif, our team takes you on a 30-minute tour through the cellars, following the grapes on their journey all the way to bottling.

You will see where our wines ferment and mature, explore the stainless-steel tank and barrique cellars and get an insight into how we work at the winery every day.

Whether you are simply curious, already love wine or are visiting as a group, the tour is for anyone who wants to understand a little more without sitting through a technical lecture. Afterwards, you can taste more wines in our winery shop and take your favourites home with you.

Price: €7 per person, including aperitif.

Regional Food at the Winery

To go with the wine, we serve a small, carefully selected range of food from our own hunts and from producers we know in the region.

Our Haus & Hof Jausn for two can be prepared within minutes and comes with a seasonal selection of regional specialities. If you have a little more time, book our Heideboden Tapas with regional ham, cheese, spreads, vegetables and bread. The exact selection changes with the seasons.

The food is there to accompany the wine tasting. It is not intended to replace a multi-course meal, but to give your visit a relaxed, regional touch. For groups, days out together or as a gift, you can combine a winery tour, tasting and tapas to create the complete Hannes Reeh experience.

Prices:
Haus & Hof Jausn: €16 for two people
Heideboden Tapas: €16 per person

Discover the Hannes Reeh Winery

The Hannes Reeh winery is located on the edge of Andau, just a few kilometres from the Hungarian border. This is where climate, winemaking and architecture come together: the vineyards shape the grapes, the cellars shape their development, and the building itself gives you an insight into how we make wine.

Our Vineyards

Our grapes grow in several vineyards around Andau. What connects them is the Pannonian Heideboden: mostly barren and gravelly, with a fertile layer of humus in some places.

Around 2,400 hours of sunshine and less than 500 millimetres of rainfall per year shape the grapes that grow here. Water drains quickly through the gravel, forcing the vines to grow deep roots in search of moisture and nutrients. At the same time, the stones retain heat and help the grapes to ripen.

To achieve optimum ripeness, we manage our vineyards sustainably and work as gently as possible. But ultimately, timing is crucial. Usually from early September onwards, we harvest healthy, ripe grapes and lay the foundations for high-quality wines.

Around 60% of our production is red wine, while white and rosé wines account for the remaining 40%. Zweigelt and Cabernet Sauvignon in particular benefit from Andau’s warmth. Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and other white varieties show the fresher side of the region.

The grapes from our Andau vineyards form the basis of our wines – from powerful, ripe reds to approachable whites and rosés with clear fruit.

But soil alone does not determine quality. It sets the direction. Meticulous work in the vineyard and cellar turns that potential into Hannes Reeh quality in the glass.

Our Wine Cellars

After harvest, the grapes arrive at our two wine cellars. This is where Hannes Reeh and cellar masters Herbert Götzinger, Christoph Kroiss and Ben Lang decide which approach is right for each wine.

White and red wines are processed in separate areas. This creates clear workflows and gives both white and red winemaking the space they need during harvest and maturation.

Not every wine follows the same path. Fresh wines such as Haus & Hof Pinot Blanc and Grüner Veltliner mature in stainless-steel tanks to preserve their clear fruit and freshness.

Andauer Zweigelt and Heideboden Cuvée Red are partly matured in barriques, creating a balance between fruit and depth. More powerful wines such as UNPLUGGED Zweigelt spend eighteen months in oak, which plays an important role in shaping their character. For limited wines such as Calimero, the team also experiments with combinations such as steel eggs and barriques.

Our cellar team does not work to a fixed recipe. They observe, taste and make new decisions for every wine. Modern technology provides precision; character comes from experience, attention and knowing when the time is right.

That allows every line to be exactly what it is meant to be: uncomplicated and fresh, powerful and rounded, or deliberately individual.

The Architecture of the Winery

The Hannes Reeh winery was not designed as a showpiece. It was designed around the way we work.

The architects Halbritter & Hillerbrand brought production, storage, sales and wine tasting together in one home for the winery.

The pressing and bottling area, tank room and barrique cellar are all located close to one another. Large timber-and-glass doors provide views into the different areas and connect the building with the garden and the rest of the winery. Exposed concrete and timber give the architecture a clear, robust character. The materials do not demand attention. They suit a winery designed for uncomplicated work and built to last.

The modern cellar began operating in 2012, and the first part of the remaining winery buildings was completed in 2013. In 2019, the winery expanded to the opposite side of the site. Between them is the main building with its impressive garden, which today also provides space for events.

The design is not an end in itself. Short distances, separate production areas and additional storage space make everyday work easier. At the same time, the winery shows visitors what happens here. Instead of standing in front of a closed production building, you experience a place where wine is made, tasted and enjoyed together.
